Reason to Cheer

Just because my last entry was a tad … emotional, I’ve decided to relay a humorous Daschel story to take the edge off.

Today I was in the kitchen watering my plants and he came running in with his new little Boots (from Dora the Explorer) gadget with him. He had just figured out that pulling the tail made Boots do a little dance. Thrilled, he ran up to me at full speed, stopped just short of running into me and yelled, “YO! Boots dancing!” and proceeded to imitate the electronic jig himself.

Voila.

Came in from Dooce. Are you in Germany? We PCSed back to the States last year and I’m so homesick for Germany I could cry myself to sleep every night. :)

Love your blog!

Yep, we’re in Mannheim, where were you at? We’ve been here since September, and while I’m still getting used to life on base (it’s our first duty station), I can say that Germany has been awesome so far. I just hate the rainy winter!

Thanks for the comment, hopefully I’ll see you again!

Oh man I just visited your site and saw that you’re at Ft. Leonard “Hood”! That’s where my husband did basic and AIT. I actually visited there a couple times. I’d cry too if that’s where we ended up after being here! <333

Paige, Yup, FLW. It’s quite the place. To be honest, there are some things about here that are better than Germany. My husband works at the hospital so there’s no field time, unlike the unending months of Graf and Hohenfels. We were in Friedberg, also a pit of despair, but it was still Germany, and still where I gave birth to my daughter, and I miss it. :) Not so much the birthing part.

We used to go to Mannheim to play softball. I only know where the PX and the softball fields are.

How long have you been there? We took some wonderful vacations that we would highly recommend if you want to know. :)

Mary-
We’ve only been here since Sept., so we’re still getting used to things: haven’t been anywhere (except Heidelburg and Nuremburg) as a family yet. Mike has gone other places (work related) but not me. I’m so stupid, I still need a driver’s lisc. for Germany, I’ve been slow in getting that together. I’d love to hear anything you could share with me about it. Wow, what a small world, this is totally awesome. Too bad you’re not still here or maybe my previous post wouldn’t exist. :p

We’re SOOO looking forward to softball!

Paige, first of all, if you want you can just e-mail me. :)

Anyway, another must-see is Rothenburg, about 1/2 hour south of Wurzburg. It’s a walled medieval village. When you get off the autobahn, follow signs for the Altstadt, and it will take you to the most beautiful part of town. You also MUST go to Garmisch, and when you go there, there are quite a few little villages around that are wonderful.

For big trips, Switzerland is AMAZING! We camped there for a week or so and had such a good time! The bad part is the gas coupons can’t be used there.
