Dancing on his tip-toes, waving his hands in the air: this is not a work-out video, this is snack time
One big downside to staying at home with your toddler every day is that eventually, you can anticipate everything they want or need. Naturally, they are aware of this, because they are all-knowing aliens programmed to drive you insane.
I know Dash is ready for a snack. I know he wants a granola bar. He knows I know. We play a waiting game: I wait for him to ask, and he waits for me to just get it for him. He stands in front of the cabinet with the snacks and does a little dance. Putting bunny on the floor, he runs in place with his hands in the air, vaguely pointing at the cabinet. The longer it takes me to reach him, the more furious his running becomes.
Eventually I put my hand on the cabinet and look at him, nearly sweating due to his freak-out dance.
“Are you hungry?”
“Yes! SNACK!”
“What kind of snack?”
“BAR. GWAWOWA BAR!”
“Please?”
“OH PLEASE MOMMY”
All while running in place.
Is there a Mommy Rescue hotline where we can call and hear the voice of another adult during the day? Just five minutes of adult conversation is all I need. It would make these moments so much easier.
Of course, in five minutes this will shift from Annoying Event to Cute Event. Bah. Parenthood.
