friday music: headphones, clap your hands say yeah!

Headphones is a Pedro the Lion side project that reminds a lot of Low and some of the more depressing (read: quiet, synth-but-not-obnoxious) Magnetic Fields stuff. The entire self-titled album is out now, you can order it from Suicide Squeeze. You can also listen to streaming Headphones at Pure Volume. My favorite song is “Shit Talker”, because IT SPEAKS TO ME.

Headphones: Shit Talker

you talk shit about them to me
you talk shit about me to them
they know this you have to know they do
and now you know i know too
i guess that’s what you get
for being born in the seventies
but i won’t hold it against you
if you don’t hold it against me
because i talk shit about you too
i swear i thought you knew
all the conversations
people have about you
shit that you won’t ever hear
shit man. oh, shit man.

Isn’t that SPECTACULAR?

In case you don’t want to hear that kind of thing, I’m also sharing some Clap Your Hands Say Yeah which is decidedly more upbeat and sing-alongable. They are a ROCK band, and Pitchfork pissed themselves all over their review so you KNOW it’s good. Their music is very full and layered, and you tap your toes and sing and itch when you hear it. Also, they’re really cute haha!

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah: Over and Over Again (Lost and Found)

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah: This Home on Ice

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah: The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth

The CD is only available at Insound (online, anyway) but they have other stuff on the site, like t-shirts and what not. There’s also one more song that I haven’t shared here that you can check out via the site. I highly recommend them, they’re super and I wish they were my friends.

I need friends pretty badly though, so it’s not quite as desperate as it sounds.

File Under: Right click, save as. Songs are for evaluation purposes only and won’t be available for download forever.

I like that David Grubbs track. How’s the rest of the album?

CYHSY is great. It’s nice to hear a band with a lot of hype and are worthy of the hype.

David Grubbs is awesome, Iva. If you like that song you’ll like just about everything he does. You’d also probably dig Jim O’Rourke … I’ll put some more songs on the Soundblox thingy this weekend - any requests? I am drowning in music, it is what entertains me when I’m home alone all day.

Meagan: SO worthy of the hype. I’m in love.
