Moving to Kubrick
Well, it’s really late, but I have the site functional using Kubrick’s theme, which is the ‘default’ theme in the most recent version of WordPress.
For those of you that might miss the old style, feel free to scroll down to the “Meta” section of the sidebar, and click the theme switcher. If you use WordPress and would like to use this tool, visit Le Meilleur du Peer. It’s a pretty nifty little tool, and really easy to use. The old style, by the way, was Connections, and though I really liked it (especially the comment page), I wanted a more fluid sidebar and less complicated entry meta info by my titles. That little date box drove me batty. Other than that, I really enjoyed Connections, and have seen some really fantastic adaptations of it.
If you leave a comment, you’ll notice that I’m trying out Gravatars. I can’t decide if I like it yet or not, but after fiddling with Skippy’s gravatar plugin for WordPress for two hours, I figure I should at least try it or else all that time is wasted. So far, I’ve noticed the comment page being a bit slower to load, but maybe that will improve, eh. If you’re thinking about using the plugin, I highly suggest reading all the comments to his posting of the .zip before installing - if you aren’t too comfortable with changing your .php files, it might not be worth it to you. Of course if you need any help or have questions that I can answer, don’t hesitate to ask.
I think that’s all for now. This color scheme/masthead is all temporary until I have a chance to play with the CSS more, so don’t be surprised if you see another change in a couple days. Thanks for being patient through all the design changes! Thanks to Jenny for letting me peruse her CSS for design help today. Jenny has cool drop-down menus on her version of Kubrick - check them out, they’re genius.
