WordPress Plugins/Hacks in Use

This post will be updated as I try and remove various plugins for WordPress.

This plugin is to be used within an already existing drop down/jump menu code. This will output the links in the WP Link Manager in the following format Site name. Credit for the original code goes to the Word Press team.

This plugin is to be used within an already existing drop down/jump menu code. It will output a list of categories in the following format: “category name“. Tested with Word Press (ver. 1.5) and credit for the code goes to the Word Press team.

Bounce referer spammers back to their own sites. The plugin comes with a list of default sites. However you can modify the referer.txt file to add/remove your referer’s(requires that the file is first created either manually or through a link provided later). I could not survive without this.

Wow. That’s a great list.

Where do I find the translator page, though? “Bounces them back to their own page?” What do you mean?

Paul:

Go here and read the explanation of how it works. Basically, when you’re using this plugin, your .htaccess keeps track of urls that are spamming you, and when they attempt a spam, your server sends a 302 (temporary redirect), which essentially tells the spammer bot to go spam its own domain.

The only “issue”, if you can call it that, is that you must manually update your referer.txt file with the names of the URLs you want to “bounce”. For me, it was tedious at first, but I’ve had little to no referer spam monthly after installing this plugin. It’s really easy to install and has very detailed instructions.

Let me know if this was helpful.

It’s working for me -

When you open that window, there is a grey box right at the top of the screen titled “Using Dropdown list”. Follow the instructions and use the Java that I’ve linked here and you should be fine. It looks almost exactly like the code for the other two dropdown menu things, only it’s not a plugin, it’s actually just a little script you put in your sidebar template.

Heh. The link itself wasn’t loading earlier. But it does now. And everything is right with the world. Hurrah.
