The Contributing Editor Has a Request

*cough*

I haven’t made an official post about it, but I have been chosen as a Contributing Editor for Blogher’s new site that will be up and running soon. I’m in the Entertainment & Arts department, and I’ll be writing about, featuring and interviewing women who rock and write.

Unfortunately, the women who blog about music are far out-numbered by the men, so it’s been interesting scouring the web for their blogs. I spent several hours going through all my links, browsing their blogrolls, and roaming around Technorati for music blogs written by women.

Sort of throws me back to 1995 and being one of three girls at a Hot Water Music show in my hometown.

Anyway, this is exactly the reason I wanted to write about music for Blogher. The conferences, get-togethers and all that jazz are great, but my priority is to feature women who love music, write about it, and live it. I’ve already received a ton of help from Large Hearted Boy, Nikki, depravedfangirls.org, Jerry Yeti, Her Jazz, and Matt at You Ain’t No Picasso. Hopefully I’ll hear more in the coming days. Everyone who has taken the time to respond will get a nod somewhere, and the women who end up in the Blogher blogroll will get tons of exposure, so it’s a win-win for everyone.

As you’ve probably guessed, I need your help, too. If you read and music blogs (mp3 or otherwise) by women, or know a female musician with a blog that is updated regularly, please email me the link or put it in the comments here. Over the next few days, I’ll be compiling a list of all of them, adding them to the blogroll over at Blogher, and deciding who to feature in the first few articles I write.

Thanks for all your help, and look forward to lots of great exposure for women who rock in the very near future.

Just one more reason I’m so glad you’re going to blog for BlogHer! Nice post. If I allow myself to surf anywhere but the alpha site over the next few days, I’ll send you a link or two…

Google “heather huff” “metal” and you should pull a ton of reviews and recaps by her. Hilarious writing and extensive music catalogue on instant recall. I don’t remember what site she was posting to last, but she is heading up a couple big music fests in the dc/baltimore area. She was a lawyer but recently quit to do the writing/review/concert thing full time, so I expect she’ll be coming out with a bunch of new articles.

Three Imaginary Girls: http://www.threeimaginarygirls.com/ = Seattle Indy Pop Scene. Heck, they just sponsored a great bill last night with KEXP (great great great Seattle independent radio station also streaming live) and several NW artists.
