Listen List, 2

gotye

Last week, I had several different things plotted out for the week to dig into, and here we are again, starting all over.

The Emily Haines CD was a big snooze, I didn’t make it through one complete listen. Though I feel a little bad about that, I really can’t imagine it coming around in those last few songs. I’m not really into Metric, either, so I guess this isn’t surprising, aside from the fact that the Internet was telling me to like it and I just couldn’t make myself.

Quarteto Novo (mp3s still up here), The Bees (US) and Whitest Boy Alive all impressed me. I knew I’d enjoy the Rodan, because I did back then, too. Still it’s nice to come back to an old favorite and pay special attention to it once in a while. The Bees and Quarteto Novo made it into the Weekly Top Artists, but no one else did. I forgot all about Fennesz, and the Egberto just didn’t come around, I guess!

What’s on for this week?

GOTYE “Like Drawing Blood”, a (so far) delicious electro-pop outfit from Melbourne.
SUSUMU YOKATA Wonder Waltz
UNDER BYEN Samme stof som stof
ANNUALS Be He Me
SWAN LAKE Beast Moans

I imagine I’ll also be listening to a lot of the JUNIOR BOYS’ recent release, So This is Goodbye as I write a show/CD review for Austinist, and JOSE GONZALEZ’S Veneer as I prepare for an interview later this week. Until we see how successful I am at paying attention to the things I’d like to pay attention to, you can refresh on why I’m keeping track here, or see if Lastfm is keeping up with me.

I’d really like to know what you think of Swan Lake when you get to it!

I’ve given it the once-through, but haven’t formed any opinions yet other than “Yes, they picked the right song for the sneak-single.”

Under Byen is so completely delightful. If you get deep into this new, I might be able to help your out with their older albums (if I can remember where I put them).
