Brief Notes on a José González Interview

maguire, gonzalez

The first thing you notice about José González isn’t a physical attribute or anything like that. The first thing you notice about José González is a humble, almost shy demeanor that betrays his fame in his homeland of Sweden. There’s a softness to everything he says, but like his music, there is a certain intensity beneath the surface.

I spent some time with him last Thursday before his show here in Austin, asking him various questions that he has most likely heard a million times. I was lucky enough to have the extremely talented Eric Uhlir (Rolling Stone, Austinist, etc.) shoot the session and the one you see above is by him. You’ll have to wait for the official interview to see a photo that doesn’t include my bra. Story of my life, for every neat thing I do, there’s some permanent reminder of what a dumbass I am.

I won’t talk too much about it here, as I’m working on the official interview for Austinist, but I will let you know when it’s up, in case you’re interested.

I bet he was surprised to have such a hottie giving the interview.

You have now shamed me into going back to finish the Irvine Welsh interview I conducted on…August 21st. Ouch.

I was wondering what happened to that, Tom.

But I bet you don’t have KEGS in your background!

So did you get that t-shirt at Target? Cuz, I think I may have the exact same one!!! I LOVE IT! (And as a bonus, the way it’s cut makes you — and by you I mean the universal we — look really bosom-y!! I love hot t-shirts!)

That’s what happens when you have lightning bolts in your chest.

I love that you got to interview him. and that someone took photos of it.

I shudder to think what photos of my “star interviews” would have looked like — flop sweat and panic, most likely.

Well, you look gorgeous, bra or not. I’m sure it made his day. (Meanwhile, I’m with Supa. Today I almost went to an interview I was lucky to even GET for a piece I’m working on while wearing two vastly different shoes.)
