Live Music & Austin
Though the New York Times considers Austin one of the most attractive and alluring locations for the “creative class”, they sort of thumbed their nose at us by referring to ATX as the “Live Music Capital of the South”. You might be aware of our self-appointed monniker, Live Music Capital of the World, and if you aren’t, well, now you know. The snub has been a hot topic here in town, and legendary club Antone’s has asked for a retraction. Hee. Naturally the story made its way over to Austinist, and the comments section is actually a pretty interesting read. Regular reader Declan McManus makes several good points (well, offers some rational criticisms of the Austin music scene) but as Rob points out somewhere, having more live act venues per capita than any other city does sorta give us the live music title, especially when you throw in SXSW, ACL Festival and whatever band is playing at Waffle House this weekend.
