Battles “Atlas” Video

I wasn’t thinking too hard about the new Battles album, Mirrored, until this week when I got to see the video for “Atlas”. Not only is the video fucking badass (look at his crash!), the song is incredible. I’m really excited for this one. Also, the video is helping to restore my faith in the medium. If music videos were all actually cool to watch, maybe they’d be useful endeavors once again.

I miss the thoughtful, artsy videos that used to feel like short films. I loved the work Mark Romanek did back in the day, or pieces like Cibo Matto’s “SugarWater” that made you go “Brilliant!”

This is a great video, I’d love it if bands (and directors) once again exploited this medium beyond simply making a commercial for their music.

As a side note, I just noticed your site title and it reminded me… you got me once again playing Bloc Party non-stop when you included that track in your 2006 mixed tape. I’m crushing on the new CD currently, especially “7:18.”

That is all.
