Towncraft : The Story of Little Rock Punk

background_gw.jpg

The Towncraft movie is about the history of punk rock and DIY culture in Little Rock, Arkansas. That sounds boring, but it’s not. I spent most of high school between Hot Springs, AR and Little Rock, and apparently (I haven’t watched it yet, but viewed most of the trailers and photos on the website) I appear several times. Look for the girl giving devil horns, I’m told.

Anyway, the story with Little Rock is that for some reason, there is a really high concentration of super talented, energetic and dedicated young people that have always been doing, making, saying, thinking in the ole Natural State … it’s sort of remarkable. The video also features interviews with some notable ex-Arkansans (Chris Wilson, of Ted Leo’s Pharmacists, John Pugh of !!!, Matt Werth of File 13 Records and more). If you’re not from there the movie might not be something you’d want to buy, but I highly recommend checking out the website and asking if when you were 15, were any of your peers awesome enough to be compiling so much incredible footage.

Wow, kick ass. Went out with a girl from Little Rock in college so I got a chance to go down there and hang out (and to play there on tour) a few times and that town was disproportionately stocked with great bands and really lovely people.

I just looked at your blog. OMG, it’s a little too envy-worthy. I love it!
