How a Record Leaks

There is a very interesting article in Spin about record leaks, how they happen, and what the reaction is in the industry. Everyone seems to acknowledge that they’re almost unstoppable and don’t necessarily hurt record sales (just as Merge: both Neon Bible and Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga made the Billboard Top 20 this year), but the fact remains that the music industry isn’t quite ready to adapt to the new regime. At some point, being pissed that something isn’t fair has to evolve into a coping mechanism, but the industry seems to be rather slow at evolution in this respect: tv and film industries are doing a better job, I’d say.
