Drowned In Sound’s Interview with Josh T Pearson

pearsonI missed this when it went up, but Drowned In Sound’s interview with Lift to Experience frontman Josh T Pearson is pretty wonderful.

One thing that is super hard is getting an interview to be meaningful, interesting and at least having some small part of that person or persons that no one else has. It’s rough to get people interested in reading about what so-and-so thought of a tour, etc. The same questions over and over again. And sure, some of the questions asked to Pearson are typical, but give the intrigue surrounding him, his former band, and his future plans, there’s hardly a thing that comes out of his mouth that doesn’t seem interesting. He’s simply an interesting guy, and a guy that doesn’t typically let people in that much. The interview he granted them was his first in five years — this after dissolving Lift to Experience, moving to Berlin, and taking up as a solo act abroad.

I’ve been playing these songs for a year and a half now, singing for my supper. I’ve been living in Berlin illegally for the past three years, struggling to hold down a job. A guy spoke to me last night and said, “You get to tour around the world, it must be great”. Yeah – I get one meal a day, and sleep on cramped buses. I’ve got a root canal I can’t afford to sort, so I can’t eat on the right side of my mouth.

Interesting article. The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads is definitely one of the more odd and fascinating CDs that I own.
