Mixape: Some Folks Is Even Whiter Than Me

This mix represents the last few months of my life fairly well, there’s a little bit of everything: gloomy, happy, loving, excited and full-on rockin’. There’s a nice mix of new and old, too. I hope that you enjoy it — it’s a lot less esoteric than the last handful of mixes I’ve made, and there are individual tracks this time too (though it’s better listened to in iTunes or on your iPod than in Winamp).

Print: One Leg Leads to Another

A collection of prints utilizing the very fashionable and ever-present A-Frame view.

“The human leg has evolved continually over many eons, adapting from an underwater propeller to its current form. But on book covers and on film and theater posters, the leg has evolved very little. In fact, the “A-Frame,” a cutoff-torso-spread-leg framing device, is the most frequently copied trope ever used.”

Kenyan Mobs Taking Out Witches

AP: “A group of up to 300 young men have burned to death 11 people suspected of being witches and wizards in western Kenya — in some cases slitting their victims’ throats or clubbing them to death before burning their bodies, officials said.” iht.com

See, this is the problem, and it applies to the Middle East as well. When people approach ideological and cultural divides with force, we are doomed. No ideological problem will ever be solved with invasions, throat slitting, or fear-mongering.

When that doesn’t work, we crawl up back into a ball and think, “Well shit, perhaps problems of the mind should be dealt with using the mind … ”

It’s like trying to explain to a racist he’s wrong by kicking his ass. We’ve just taught him that now not only is he further separated from the rest of his culture, he’s also a martyr. Good work.

Let’s slit the throats of witches and set them on fire. That will teach others not to … what? Let’s scare people in the Middle East with bombs. That’s helped so far … how? No number of bombs or trucks or scare tactics will ever bridge the divide between our culture and theirs, and that is what we’ve never really been able to fully grasp as a group of individuals who all (at the heart of our personal politics) want the same thing.

Appeasing is not the same thing as acknowledging that there is not just one answer for every question.
