Has anyone been to see the Misfits in the last few years? Or Danzig, for that matter? I mean, I’m an old school Misfits fan, I fell in love in the ’90s and still listen to the records pretty regularly, but I’m not sure if even pretend nostalgia would be good enough.
Now I should note that technical precision isn’t what I’m after. If you’ve seen them in the last five years or so, let me know: was it fun and loud or embarrassing and lame? I’d drive to San Antonio or Houston if someone reputable tells me it will be awesome.

The band currently calling itself the Misfits bears very little in common with the band we knew and loved and is better suited for 12 year old insane clown posse fans. If you want to scratch your nostalgia itch, there’s an excellent boxed set available.
Oh, I have the boxed set. I was really hoping that the itch could be rewarded with a loud rock show, but I have to admit your advice doesn’t come as a surprise. What a shame.
What Wiley said. Danzig left the crew many years ago, and the reincarnated Misfits are a cartoon-ish version of what used to be.

When I checked Pandora’s criteria for playing me a Danzig song this weekend, it said it was because the song had, amongst other things, “excessive vamping”.
Hard to find fault with that.
