Pitchfork, Froberg & Reis
DOWNLOAD: Pitchfork “Thin Ice” (m4a, sorry)
Let’s start with Obits, Rick Froberg’s new band. This year they’ll release their debut full length, I Blame You (which is awesome). And we can also put John Reis (aka Speedo) at the beginning here; he keeps up with Swami Records and is currently in The Night Marchers. Before that, Reis was in Hot Snakes and Rocket from the Crypt. Froberg was also in Hot Snakes, and before that, he and Reis collaborated in one of my favorite bands of ever all-time, Drive Like Jehu. But before that, Froberg and Reis were in a band called Pitchfork, and they released a couple of records Eucalyptus and Saturn Outhouse. This was 1989.
Tonight I got my copy of the new Obits and it set me back in time for a bit — I listened to it, which made me go back to some Hot Snakes, which led me to Crypt, then of course to Drive Like Jehu, and before I knew it I was listening to my favorite Pitchfork tune, “Thin Ice.” Join me, won’t you?
PS Follow the jump to see some Obits live.
