One a Day: Trash Talk
Here’s something I know he’ll enjoy – a track from Trash Talk, a Sacremento-based four piece that I’m really enjoying. Their sound is heavy, traditionally CA tough (low and hi shrieks, angular fuzzed out guitars, 30 second tunes – think early Locust, Man Is the Bastard, etc.), but their subtle modern influences peek through. For my money, I love the simple grit of it all, and I’m glad to see a hardcore band like this getting so much indie press. They play backyards, they play every show like it’s their last, and they are self-releasing their records after a stint with Deathwish. “The Hand That Feeds” is on the self-titled record self-released in 2008, produced by analog purist Steve Albini (perfect choice) and naturally, recorded live. The hiccups only add to the distinct uniqueness of these songs, and I can’t wait to see what happens for these guys next. Here’s to kids quite a bit younger than I am living up to all the hardcore standards I grew up admiring.
They’ll play on Thursday May 21 at the Mohawk with Propagandhi.
