Elliott Murphy “How’s the Family”
I recently discovered Elliott Murphy’s brilliant 1973 album, Aquashow, and I had to share a tune from it. Murphy’s style is a sort of classic ’70s Americana tinged with ELO, Bowie (especially his vocals) and a bit of Dylan. Fans of this era will love this record. He’s one of those guys that has been just on the fringes of my listening experience for years — working with Springsteen, Ian Matthews, Ernie Brooks (Modern Lovers) and the Smithereens among others. Here’s “How’s the Family”:

Aquashow is one of my Top 10 albums of all time. I bought it when it was first released after reading a glowing review in Rolling Stone. Elliott has continued to make many, many other great albums and is still going strong today. His most recent album, “Notes From The Underground,” was released last year. Also check out “Lost Generation,” “Affairs,” “Night Lights” and “12,” just to name a few other of my favorites of his. Don’t think he ever worked with the Smithereens though. His website has lots of info: http://www.elliottmurphy.com.
