94: Silver Jews’ Starlite Walker (1994)

I’m a huge fan of David Berman across the board. I enjoy his poetry, I love all the words he’s ever written, and though his latest output hasn’t moved me as much as older work, he continues to inspire. His story is a difficult but inspirational one, and his recent retirement from music saddened me greatly. This record is the one that introduced me to Berman, the one that blossomed into my love of Malkmus, and taught me how special a human being’s self-reflection and foresight is. “Trains Across the Sea” and “Advice to a Graduate” can, in certain circumstances, bring a tear to my eye. “Rebel Jew” was my fight song for a few years. Thank you David Berman, for teaching me about understanding myself.
