incidentals and accidentals – Reading Pitchfork’s re-review of Kid A
"Whether it’s actually the best record, qualitatively speaking, of the decade is beside the point. Like Nevermind before it, Kid A (and Radiohead in general) has become emblematic of its era. Someone somewhere—sorry, I’ve read so many tumblr posts and tweets and blogs and news articles—said that this decade in music might be remembered more for its news stories than for its music. Probably true, but don’t you think if you had to tie that story to a record or band it must be Radiohead, and it must be Kid A? Even more fitting to think that the decade is roughly bookended by Kid A and In Rainbows, whose story is just as wrapped up in its commentary on the industry (if not more so) as Kid A has become."
