63: Paul McCartney’s Ram (1971)
It’s hard to pick a post-Beatles work of McCartney’s, and the last time I did my Top 100, I picked McCartney. I was drawn to it at that time because of the first-ness of it, the fact that he’d recorded it all himself, and because of the beard. Seriously. Since then, though, I’ve come to really love quite a bit more Wings stuff, and this record, which has become one of my all-time favorites. “Heart of the Country” always gets to me, it’s become a sort of mainstay in the house since we found this on vinyl. “Backseat of My Car” and “Too Many People” are also must-haves.
