The End of WOXY.com
by Paige on March 23, 2010
Last year, I was hired by WOXY.com to come aboard as a marketing and development guru. Since then, I’ve come to know Shiv, Mike, Joe, Bryan Jay and Brian N. pretty well, and been so happy (and proud) to be a part of such an incredible team. They’ve been through many ups and downs over the years, and through it all they’ve remained dedicated, sincere and above all always genuinely excited about music and this community that we’re all a part of. This comes as a tremendous blow after the team spent all of SXSW week working with bands, labels, PR firms, managers, and more in the studio and beyond.
My job was, more than anything else, to help spread the word about WOXY in Austin and beyond. In the brief time since we made our announcement, your emails, Tweets and text messages have proven that I’ve at done that. Though WOXY is a world-wide station, Austin has embraced it fully and I know that saying goodbye will be bittersweet. I’d like to thank everyone in Austin who made the team’s transition from Ohio a smooth and exciting one, people who not only embraced the station but reached out and involved us in this incredible city’s culture. Rose Reyes, Happy Mercado and the entire team at Sweet Leaf, Home Slice Pizza, C3, Transmission Entertainment, everyone at Emo’s, the Mohawk, Beerland and Scoot Inn, AMF, the good folks at ME TV … the list goes on and on. Naturally a proper thank you must include every label, band, manager and PR firm we’ve ever worked with … there’s just too many people to thank. Above all, though, we owe everything to our listeners and are so proud to have such a devoted group of followers. We’ll miss you all more than you know.
Though I’ve only had a chance to be there a short time, I’ve learned a ton and come to respect these guys so much, today’s news makes me truly sad. Not only am I losing friends and co-workers that I love and admire, I’m one of many who is losing what is one of the only truly free, independent outlets for music around.
As much as I wish something magical might come through, it really doesn’t look likely at this point. Our owners at Future Sounds have exhausted their resources looking for a new home for us and more funding. Unfortunately, it seems as though we’ve lived all nine lives.
As hard as it is, I will be looking for new opportunities in the Austin area starting immediately. Please feel free to email me (paige@flux-rad.com) if you’re interested in seeing the updated resume and portfolio.
I continue to work as Music Editor at Austinist, so please don’t hesitate to reach out on Austin music matters!

I was a latecomer to WOXY and only became a regular listener within the past six months. I really was impressed by the level of professionalism and quality of the programming, the DJs and the overall look and feel of the station and Web site. I think the product was exceptional and wanted to commend everyone for a job done extremely well and for keeping me entertained at work, in the car (via iPhone app) and at home during dinner, when my wife and I always listen to music.

What a shocking blow – my condolences.

Sorry this has happened. Stupid funding. You’d think the investor would have floated the station to see if post-SXSW Internet traffic picked up.

Chasing after kids and fads will never bring long term success. Serve kids the hip styles of today, but tomorrow find yourself out of style. Whatever the indie and hip-hop kids put in the new Cactus Cafe will flop soon. KUT’s weak attempt at indie pandering will go out of style too, but the long running KUT music shows will stand strong.

That is sincerly awful. My car will continue to sport its WOXY.com sticker with pride. I wish there was something we all could do to help.

Contact Future Sounds, Inc. and let them know what you think of this.

Future Sounds, Inc was formed by a club dj and a clothing company. Music is not their first priority.

@Hip to be Square: eat a dick. Woxy wasn’t chasing after “the kids” or “hipness.” They were offering a venue to promote good music that many people would never discover on their own because of bullshit top 40 radio and the willingness of the general public to settle for complete mediocrity. Give me Woxy over KUT any day–at least I wouldn’t have to listen to five effing hours of Folkways every Sunday.

I’m shocked, I always listen to woxy while working, this is gonna change my days. Wish all of you people the best luck and that I can check your future works, I always had these people as friends and wished some day i could go to the USA to pay a visit to the studios. I’m pretty sad that it’s not likely to happen.

Sorry to hear the news Paige. Your a great gal with an ear for music. I enjoyed listening to WOXY during its stint- a lot of good sounds broadcast thru them airwaves. I’ll always appreciate the opportunities you allowed me with the Austinist and Trans. I wish you well in your future endeavors-
