2006 Ist Rad Mixtape, Vol.1

flux-rad 2006 ist rad mixtape 1

To gear up for my year-end list of favorite albums, I’ve decided to put together a couple mixtapes that feature some of my favorite tracks from the year. As you might suspect, “Vol. I” indicates more than one … but how many will there be? Oh my god stay tuned, y’all. The first mix is 22 songs, all of them are instrumental or use vocals sparingly. Some of you might hear the word instrumental and think, “Wow, that sounds like a snoozer,” but then you obviously haven’t heard Chris Clark or Nomo. Everything from dream-inducing minimalist ambient sounds to toe-tapping jazz horn sections fill the mix, and you’ve even got some sexy artwork, since it’s pretty much doubling as a kickass makeout mix. You can thank me later.

Thank you for the mix. Looks great.. already downloaded and being copied over to my iPod for my plane flight tomorrow.

can I make a recommendation for vol 2? I’d love it if there was a playlist file and/or the filenames were consistent for ordering. I’m not as big as an iTunes user as the rest of the world and prefer to be super anal over how my files are named and presented. Help me!

Boy oh boy is this mix a moody one!

Michael,
The songs should play in order but I’ll include m3us in the subsequent mixes for you. :)

Paul,
Yeah it’s basically suffering from multiple personality disorder, but I listened to it all the way through over the weekend and have to say it worked for me. I should have thrown some Dabrye or FM3 on for added confusion but assumed 22 songs was already pushing it.

Umm, can you please tag these the way I prefer they be tagged? (you know how I like it) As opposed to the way you want them to be tagged? Mkay, thanks.

Or maybe you could do a custom version of this mix for every person who downloads it, the way they want it. There’s an idea!

Great stuff on there though. Especially the Benevento/Russo Duo track and great choice on the Four Tet cut.

Aaron, thanks for the sarcasm regarding my comment. Try downloading the mix and listening to it with winamp - you’ll find it to be an entirely different experience than iTunes. I wasn’t trying to get ole Flux-Rad to comply with my worldly desires, mearly making a suggestion that would make the mixes a little more universally appealing.

But regardless, the mix IS appreciated - in any form or fashion.

Sorry Michael,

Guess I was just bitter about being left out of your post about Swoon last week, when Swoon is a joint venture between Paige and I (and Paul), and I was responsible for the re-design, quite a few of the posts and current mix available (I’ll guess you grabbed it, did you like?). And I assume you know I exist and have something to do with it, so I found it weird. I know Paige is the pretty face on the site, but we fellas are here too.

That and it seems like every time someone posts a free mix, someone has a suggestion of how to tag it/or package it better. I know there’s a best way to do everything, but sometimes you just gotta eat your free meal and smile. Y’know?

Dearest Paige,
I listen to my playlists whilst strapped into a body-sized sense augmentation chamber with Trans-Altrans XL900 interlaced holographic imaging which i absorb through a conductive liquid that bonds to my cerebral cortex via sweat pores. In the future, I would appreciate it if you can inscribe playlists into a diaphanous silver pyramid with the correct radioactive isotope.

I srsly don’t know what’s going on in this particular wood-paneled basement of the internet, but the mix that I found here is superb.

Thanks!

My thoughts exactly Josh. You and I could almost be best friends forever. If you’d just stop hitting on my girlfriend!

I’m gonna cry y’all.

I wanted to be Chrissie Hynde or a Wilson sister.
